## Transcript

Jameson, Daniels, Mark, names we have all come to know and love. They've been there for the good days and the bad days, but if you want to keep them around, you may need to stock up. And it may be time to hoard the whiskey. A whiskey and bourbon shortage in the coming months. Experts say demand is growing at about twice the pace of the supply. Domestically and internationally, whiskey sales have been booming. According to the Distilled Spirits Council, since 2002 sales of US bourbon and Tennessee whiskey have grown by almost 30 % while sales of Irish Whiskey have jumped more than 80 % in the same amount of time.

For most companies when demand is high, you just hire more employees, buy more parts and produce more products, but for those in the whiskey business, it doesn't really work that way. You're always making something that's two, three, four and more years into the future. And the worse thing that can happen to any of us is that demand is greater than supply. The top shelf brands are in even more trouble. The DSC reports a 100 % jump in super premium US bourbon and Tennessee whiskey. We age it for at least eight years. Buffalo Trace says it's America's oldest, continuously operating distillery and it claims to be feeling the super premium pinch.

Premium brands are up nearly 20 % from last year. Buffalo Trace ages many of its barrels for eight to ten years and some over two decades. That's a long time to wait for a bottle of bourbon. The increase in sales, coupled with the aging process and evaporation loss, leads to a shortage with no end in sight. If the resurgence of whiskey drinkers continues, Time, writes there are two likely outcomes. Distilleries ages bourbon for a shorter amount of time thereby dropping the quality or your favorite brand raises its price. Either way, seems like it's good a time as any to head to your local liquor store.

Thanks for watching, I'm Jamal Andress.
