She said, " Mubarak call in their [ unk ]. >> Muhammad Artak, his daughter, and the rest of his family enjoy a lighter moment in Cairo's Tahrir Square. They're amongst thousands of protesters who come here calling for an end to President Hosni Mubarak's nearly 30- year rule. Tahrir Square is a tale of 2 cities within a city, one where festive atmosphere persists. But the threat of violence is real. Over the last week, unrest has gripped the Square and its side streets. Morning Star as they would elsewhere in Egypt's capital. Newspapers are read, tea and coffee are served, and the streets are tidied up. Many, like Artak, have made temporary homes. He's been here for about a week. At nighttime, the women and children sleep in a nearby mosque. Atar is a business professor with a comfortable life, but says Egyptians are suffering under their president. >> My family I ask them, and-- " Do you want to hear or to go to work ?" All of them said we have the same choice stay here to support our decision to take Mubarak out our country. >> He was wounded in clashes a few days ago, but still feels Tahrir is okay for his family. >> Now we're here, we feel very, very safely. Tahrir Square is the most safe place in east because we protect our self. >> Nearby, on Friday, the scene of a small mosque- turned- hospital shows another side of Tahir the side bracing itself for more violence. The victim of a night attack, doctors say was by Mubarak supporters, is given emergency treatment. Over a thousand patients have come here during clashes with the pro- Mubarak crowds. Murad is one of them. >> We were protecting the museum. The thugs, of course, advanced on us, and we threw rocks at them. And one of them threw a rock and it hit my head. >> Despite a relatively calm day, Tahrir's high profile status means the mood can change in an instant. >> I think because of the numbers of the people who are coming, they'll-- maybe coming to the Tahrir Square outside, maybe it's-- you can see some tensions here. >> So far, the army has made repeated calls for the demonstrators to leave the area but as yet to use force. For now, thousands of Egyptians, rich and poor, old and young, simply sit and wait in a place where each day, each hour can be different than the next.
