## Transcript

So when women go through divorce, they often make some very common mistakes. Now one of them is just not acknowledging what a giant trauma this is. You are just unraveling every single part of your life. You're unraveling your finances, for sure. Maybe your location, your relationship with your children, how much time you're going to spend with your children. And this is a big deal. [ MUSIC ] So do not deny yourself the honor of grieving all of that. The second big mistake is not keeping an eye on long term goals. When you are leaving a marriage and unravelling a marriage, the goal is for both parties to move on and have independent, fulfilled lives.

It is not about exacting revenge, getting what you think is yours, punishing the other person. It doesn't matter any more. That leads me to my third point, which is alimony. Now, increasingly, alimony, many women are surprised to find that there's no such thing as lifelong alimony in most states. And, even in the short term it's becoming less and less common. And what I see time and again is women that do get a lot of child support and alimony, they hold themselves back financially and professionally because they don't go for raises. They might actually have meetings with their boss and say don't give me that raise that you just offered me.

I've heard that many times because they know then they won't qualify for alimony or more child support. They're holding themselves back for personal and professional fulfillment. And do you think about that, that hope that all women, if these women are choosing to hold themselves back to get this check from their ex- husbands. Those women are not married to those men anymore. That relationship is over. It's not his job to support you anymore. And now you are on your own path to build this amazing beautiful life of your own.
