[ SOUND ] It's an amazing honor, and I'm really really happy to be here. There's a chemistry in the room that you can't control. Which is what makes it kind of terrifying but really exciting. Very flattered to be named Time's number one, Only influential person? The Time One list, there is not anyone else on the list. Time magazine on it's own is an institution, but the people that they have gathered together to honor tonight is truly out of this world. [ MUSIC ] This event rests as influence rests At he intersection of accomplishment and renown. Influence is a gift you've earned and you now get to share.

Ladies and gentlemen, the 2016 Time 100. Something bout you [ MUSIC ] I'd like to make the first toast to an incredible artist, arguably the best artist of all time who passed just recently, Prince. [ APPLAUSE ] So many people in this room were told you can't do that, that's not how you should think. You're doing it wrong, you're nuts, you're crazy, that's not how we do things. In one way or another, everybody in this room simply forge ahead. Is it that person is a success was live well Laughed often, and loved much. Who has gained the respect of intelligent people, and the love of children. Who has filled his niche and accomplished his task.

Who leaves this world a better place than he found it, whether by an approved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul. Who never lacks appreciation for earth's beauty. Or fails to express it. Who looks for the best in others, and gives the best they have. [ MUSIC ]
