## Transcript

>> Atlanta is preparing for yet another winter storm just two weeks after being paralyzed by two inches of snow.

>> An autograve yard on the Interstate. Semi- trucks jack- knifed, cars abandoned by the hundreds, others are struggling.

>> But this times Atlanta officials say the city is ready for the storm and the residents should make plans to stay inside for a few days.

>> Do not put yourself or your family in jeopardy.

>> The most important thing that we can do is to have the roads clear.

>> The National Weather Service called the coming storm a potentially catastrophic event. And CNN writes, this is a beast of a storm system up to an inch of ice could coat trees and power lines. But considering how bad this storm is and how ill- prepared Atlanta with the first time, we were thinking is this the worst winter remakes to hit the pitch state? Not quite. There is an entire website dedicated to Atlanta's 1982 snow jam, and well that sounds like a middle school dance, it's actually a major winter storm that hit the Atlanta area in January of 1982. The city known as " Hotlanta" has 5.

8 inches of cold snow that day, and if the stories online are to be believed, it was a terrible drive home. Cars were sliding into one another, tractor trailers were performing slow motion jack- knife maneuvers. It reminded me of bumper cars at Six Flags. But as bad as that might have been, it pales in comparison to the Ice Storm from 2000 which the National Weather Service and others have been comparing the looming storm too. A $ 35 million disaster hit the Atlanta area in January of that year leaving more than 500, 000 homes and businesses in the dark. President Obama has declared a State of Emergency for Georgia.

The mayor of Atlanta says the city will have an extra 180 tons of salt and sand and Georgia's department of transportation will be working 12 hour shifts to handle the upcoming storm.
