## Transcript

All's fair in love and business and that's why when Dollar General, the current king of the discount market, heard about the potential Family Dollar, Dollar Tree merger, the company placed a $ 9. 7 billion bid to break up the sale. Dollar General's bid for Family Dollar breaks down to $ 78. 50 a share. That's including Family Dollar's debt and a $ 305 million fee. For breaking up the potential Dollar Tree, Family Dollar merger. The offer is about 4 bucks more generous per share than the offer from Dollar Tree last month. According to CNBC the potential deal, even brought the company's CEO out of retirement.

Richard Dreiling had said he was gonna retire. As part of this transaction he would stay on. Through 2016. A deal of this magnitude would make Dollar General the leader of the discount market by a humongous margin. The buyout will leave Dollar General with almost 20, 000 stores across the country. And 28 billion dollars in annual revenue. Up from $ 17. 5 billion this past year. Dreiling said of the potential deal, it would be a significant strategic opportunity to create immediate and lasting shareholder value. We would be able to provide better value and greater selection. Because of the size of the deal and potential anti- trust issues.

Dollar General has offered to sell 700 stores. No word yet on if Dollar Tree will respond to Monday's news with a higher bid.
