[ MUSIC ] When you think about hatchback, you think about Honda civics, Volkswagen golf's little cars that do lot's of little things for you. Then, there's this Mercedes. This the GL8AMG and AMG is the racing division of Mercedes, and what they've done. Is make a super hot hatch that's a little bit weird. Mercedes touts this car as fitting in anywhere and standing out everywhere but the problem is it doesn't quite fit everywhere. It's a little of this a little of that and not very friendly in many ways. It's a little small. It drives well but this is not the most practical hatchback. It's got a lot of really hot features to it.

The chairs are beautiful leather for instance. But the car is a little hard to get in and out of. And at the same time it's a little noisy and you wouldn't expect that from a car like this. So here we have a beautiful interior but also a busy one. Now look at this dashboard. Mercedes just insists on having a keypad here, a number keypad. It's totally useless today. Here we have a nav system, information system that's a little bit clunky, not very easy to use, not very intuitive. Now let's look at the transmission here. It's very compact, very easy to use actually. How does it drive? Well, there's three modes of, of driving here.

There's. A sport mode which is very aggressive. It reacts very quickly. There's a manual mode too. Paddle shifting, a seven speed transmission and then there is an everyday mode. The e- car also has an eco function on it which will turn the motor off when you're stopped for instance which will save on gasoline. There is also a launch mode on this thing. [ NOISE ] Go from zero to 60 in about 4 point 8 seconds. Which for a hatchback is pretty amazing. 355 horsepower engine. It takes premium gasoline. And here's something unusual. You got to hold up the hood with a stick right out of 1920 something.

So if you're gonna make a hot hatch back, you better put some power into it and this thing has a lot of it, 355 horse power. It's a four cylinder engine, but to get all that power, they turbo charged it [ MUSIC ] And it really moves. It's a seven speed dual clutch automatic transmission and this things winds through the gears like a really angry hornet. It weighs in about 48 thousand dollars and this version which has all he features tops out about 63 thousand. The handling is terrific, but your gonna feel a lot of bumps, I mean this is not the kind of car you want to go grocery shopping in [ Music ]
