Despite the rising cost of tuition and student loan debt in America growing ever- larger, college grads can breath a sigh of relief. Going to college is still a good investment. That is of course, if you major in the right thing. Or, more specifically, don't major in the wrong thing. According to an annual report from the Georgetown University center on education and workforce, which measures in great detail the value of all college degrees. Certain majors, on average, just don't pay off financially. [ MUSIC ] Financially. According to the study, individuals with a bachelor's degree make 84 % more over a life time than those with a high school diploma, but if that bachelor's degree happens to be in psychology, social work or one of the arts, the extra money dips significantly.

With those grads averaging $ 31, 000. 00 per year [ MUSIC ] Only $ 1 thousand more then the average high school educated worker. And by contrast those who majored in engineering earned on average $ 57 thousand per year. In fact wages are predictably high and constantly rising for all of the S. T. E. M. fields. S. T. E. M. being Science Technology Engineering and Math. But even for the English lit and art majors of the world, the good news from the report is that the job market for college grads as a whole is on the rise.
