I'm Maia Shibutani. Oh gosh. That's not my name. Take 2. >> I'm Maia Shibutani. >> I'm Alex Shibutani. >> I'm an ice dancer and this is my first Olympics. >> One of our nicknames throughout the years has sort of turned into the ShibSibs. When we were young birthday parties at ice rinks were really, really popular and so we wanted to learn to skate and Maia loved it right away. She started taking private lessons. >> I absolutely love performing. That's my favorite part of ice dancing, really connecting with an audience. >> I got taken to the rink because I'm her only sibling so I started taking private lessons too. >> It can be a real struggle sometimes, but we have a lot of fun together. It's really great that we can be a team and work on something together, have the same goals and experience all these amazing things together. >> I'm lucky to have Maia as my partner. She's an amazing skater. We have a great relationship and we're able to come up with things together and create programs that we really enjoy and hopefully the audience enjoys. That's huge for me. >> Sometimes before you compete, you can get pretty nervous, but right before I skate usually I have that sense of calm, I get into the zone and looking over and seeing Alex right there makes me feel really comfortable. >> Competitions are generally stressful environments. You really work so hard and you wanna do your best, but I think once you get to the competition our focus is always you've done the work. Hopefully you've trained and you prepared and so it's just time to have fun, really let loose. Your muscle memory will kick in and just really enjoy the moment. >> Training everyday can be really hard but as long as you keep at it, go through the daily grind and enjoy yourself while you're doing it, it makes a big difference. >> I think my approach to skating has always been focus on the ice and fun off the ice. You know I think the more that you enjoy what you do and don't get too uptight and tense even though circumstances might be stressful, I think that's where you get the most success out of everything really. >> Success to me is enjoying every step of the way and really showing how all of our hard work can pay off and have 2 great performances. >> And we can look back and we can feel like we attacked every practice with the appropriate amount of intelligence but, you know, we wanna have no regrets at the end of this year and I think just the repetitions of training it's hard sometimes. This sport isn't all daffodils and rainbows.
