A & E Network suspended family patriarch Phil Robertson from the hit reality show Wednesday after GQ published an interview with the star in which Robertson made some controversial comments. When asked what he considered sinful, Robertson took a very hard anti- gay stance. Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there, bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman, and that woman, and those men. Robertson went on to make some pretty vulgar statements about how he doesn't understand the appeal of gay sex but added, " That's just me ." And he was quick to back that last part up. Those statements come just from Robertson and a statement sent to PEOPLE the network said, " His personal views in no way reflect those of any networks who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely ." The news was a hot topic online. Fans and critics waited on Twitter, getting Robertson's name and A & E trending. GLAAD applauded A & E's swift action >> and saying it sent a strong message that discrimination is neither a Christian nor an American value. Andy Cohen supported it too. He awarded Robertson the Jack Hole of the Day title on Watch What Happens Live. >> It was announced this evening that Phil is suspended indefinitely from Duck Dynasty. Maybe he will spend that time getting to know some really cool gay people. If not, I hear Russia is lovely this time of year. >> Robertson has filmed some episodes for the upcoming season of the show, set to premiere in January. But he won't be >> filming any new material while suspended. In a coincidental twist, Robertson was absent from a pre- taped interview the family did for Barbara Walters' 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013 Special that aired Wednesday night just after news of his suspension broke. Robertson was reportedly out hunting at the time of the taping but it's also no secret that he's not the biggest fan of the limelight. His sons told Jimmy Fallon back September their dad was against doing Duck Dynasty in the beginning. >> We just gotta email the [ unk ] said, " Hey, >> I think you guys may have a big show ." And so, I went to talk to dad and I said, " Dad, there's a-- you know, we could do a big show on a network ." And he said, " Nah, that won't work ." >> Robertson released a statement to PEOPLE when asked for comment. He said, " I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me.
