## Transcript

Actress and singer Elaine Stritch died Thursday in her Birmingham, Michigan, home. Stritch might be best known nowadays for playing Alec Baldwin's mother, Colleen Donaghy, on 30 Rock. She won an Emmy for the show. But long before that, she made her debut on Broadway at the age of 21 in the comedy show, Loco. She understudied for the legendary Ethel Merman in the show Call Me Madam, and later starred in The King and I, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. And Showboat. She was a five time Tony Award nominee, winning once, and truly a Broadway legend. And she knew it. In 1996, telling CBS' Charles Osgood, I think I've got it.

I know I've got it. And, that's not giving myself anything. You know who gave me that. Stritch also graced the silver screen in two Woody Allen movies. 1987's September and Small Time Crooks in 2000. Who can forget her role as the titular character in Jennifer Lopez's nemesis in 2005's Monster in Law? People reminds us Stritch is just as famous for the roles she didn't get. Namely the part of Dorothy in the Golden Girls and Trixie in The Honeymooners. Work aside, the New York Times says Stritch was also known for having a good time. Noting she might be the only Broadway actor to ever work as a bartender after hitting the stage.

Stritch told the paper back in 1968 " I drink and I love to drink and it's part of my life ." It's that zealous life that fellow actors are remembering. Lena Dunham tweeted may your heaven be a booze- soaked, no pants solo show at the Carlyle. The actress famously lived at the historical Carlyle Hotel in New York City for more than a decade. Before she turned to her home in Michigan in 2013 because of health problems. And former costar Mia Farrow said, I suspect Elaine Stritch won't know how to rest in peace. Stritch married playwright John Bay in 1973. CBS reports they were married until he died from a brain tumor in 1982.

Entertainment Tonight has a statement from Stritch's agent. Elaine was truly one of a kind. Stritch was 89 years old. I'm Christian Bryant.
