## Transcript

Getting your job done and getting your job done well is the foundation of a good relationship with your boss. But if you don't see your boss everyday, you're probably missing out on some opportunities to build on that relationship and advance in your career. You need to start by setting up a regular time to check in with your boss. Don't just email. pick up the phone, just hearing your voice is gonna help you establish a more personal connection. Make every opportunity you can to get to headquarters. Go for on site training, go for the most important meetings. Even attend conferences that you know that your boss is gonna be at and spend some time socializing together.

Now make sure you're not just in touch with the boss. Go out with colleagues and with friends in the office so that you find out what's going on behind the scenes, stuff that you're not picking up on when you're not there every day. Your boss shouldn't be the only one it's important to connect with on a personal level. Try to recruit mentors who'll make sure other people will know who you are. That way, if your boss isn't there, other people know what you're doing. It's not just about letting people know you're doing your job and doing your job well. Having a personal connection with your coworkers and with your boss fosters a relationship, and it's gonna help you get ahead in your career if your boss knows more about you and feels that connection with you.
