## Transcript

I'm Patty Sellers. I'm with Fortune. And Kristin's question that she got today from the anonymous man regarding Carly Fiorina, is she warm enough? Is that, A ) a fair question, B ) is she warm enough? And see do you think that she has a viable chance of being the Republican vice- presidential nominee? First of all, I think being likable is not something in presidential politics that is unique to women. Haven't you [ INAUDIBLE ]. Well, I just want to kinda like have a beer with George Bush. As opposed to Al Gore. And that's what Independent voters said. They found him more likeable than Al Gore.

So, this is, there is a lot of personality that goes around presidential elections. And this has been all men up until now in our history. So personality matters. You're going to spend a lot of time with the President. They're gonna be in your living room a lot, and I think that it's just human nature that you want someone who is likeable. I think Carly Fuerina, I don't know that I wanna do this cuz I don't wanna give her advice Cuz I don't want her to be President of the United States, but I do think it's important. After I ran for governor, a focus group that I watched, and nothing is scarier than watching a focus group that's tearing you to shreds, of women.

One of them said, well, she reminds me of Cruella de Vil. [ CROSSTALK ] It was startling to me because I realized I mean, I'm pretty nice, I'm kinda easy to get along with, I'm not horrible. I realized that I was so focused on being strong, I was not ever showing vulnerability. Remember when Hillary Clinton cried in New Hampshire? What an incredible moment that was. The authenticity that just oozed out and you saw how hard she was working and her passion. And it was not a bad moment for sure. It was a good moment for her. And so I think that there is probably some of, especially because she's a good debater.

And I found this in the courtroom. Especially when you're a good debater and a woman, I think it's important that you be, smile, and be likeable. Every debate I've done, the big word I write on my pad is smile. And I circle it. Cuz I get so intense that I forget to be warm and friendly. And I think she, probably, all candidates for President need to be warm and friendly. Can she be Vice President? I would be surprised if she was not selected to be vice president in a campaign where Hillary Clinton is the nominee and one of those other candidates become the nominee. I would be surprised if she could win the Republican nomination, however, cuz they're gonna come after her now There are issues about HP, there's issues now about whether or not when she was the CEO they were doing business with a company that was doing business with Iran during the time that there was not supposed to be anybody doing business with Iran.

All that stuff, I mean I don't need to tell you, you're a journalist. All the journalists will start now digging in her backyard. So she'll have some tough times coming up in the next. Cuz the other candidates are gonna start dropping their opposition research on her. That's how it works. The other candidates do oppo research on you and then when you start doing well they call their journalist friend and go I got something for you, and they send over the documents and then lo and behold, you see an article in the Wall Street Journal or you see an article In the New York Times, you see an article on Politico.

A lot of that information comes directly from our opposition researchers who are being paid by other campaigns to get bad stuff about a candidate out into the mainstream. [ BLANK_AUDIO ]
