## Transcript

With the 2014 World Cup set to begin in just a few days, we all know the favorites. Defending champion Spain heads to Brazil with 16 players from the 2010 championship team, and a number one ranking, Germany and host country Brazil round out the top three. But the only thing fans love more than a champion, is an underdog, and the U. S. national team is one of many, that is going to have a tough time making it out of the opening round. Affectionately titled the group of death, the United States starts its run for the cup facing the second best team in the world, according to FIFA, in the German National team.

Christiano Reynaldo and his powerhouse Portugal team, which is ranked fourth in the world, and a Ghana team, that ruined the USA's chances of advancing it its last. Two World Cup appearances. Also, the U. S. will be navigating this formidable opening round, without its fearless leader. Landon Donovan, arguably the greatest U. S. national player ever, will be watching this World Cup from home. I have to choose, the best 23 players. Based on what I see, today. Another country facing a so called group of death is Costa Rica. England, Italy, and Uruguay are all waiting for Los Ticos, in group D. And Costa Rica will have to make its way through the tournament without two of its stars.

Striker Alvaro Saborio, who had surgery on his right. For this past week, and left back Bryan Oviedo, who is still recovering from a broken leg. Saborio, who helped Terry Lucelle through the qualifier with eight goals, had surgery on his foot this past week, but will travel with the change to Brazil. The real Salt Lake striker offered his support on Facebook writing, I want to say thanks to all. I will be supporting the team and will see them make history. Group F though not as challenging as D or G features an underdog, Iranian team who are most are expecting to be knocked out by the powerful attacking sides of Argentina and Bosnia.

Iran beat Korea 1- 0 to solidify it's spot in the world cup, after missing the 2010 tournament. Iran has a defensive mind it's seen, planning to stack the back line all tournament. But, that still might not be enough to slow down Lionel Messi and others. Lastly, the soccer rules of Australia will have to deal with both finalist from the 2010 world cup, in Spain and the Netherlands. Australia who has been to the world cup three times in total, is ranked a whopping. 48 spots, lower than everyone in group B. Which led the New York Times to dub Australia, the World Cup's unluckiest country. But the socceroos have pulled off upsets before, an unlikely 3 to 1 win over Japan, and a tie against Croatia, pushed Australia to the round of 16 in 2006.

Australia then hailed the eventual World Cup champs, Italy a full 90 minutes before finally conceding a penalty, in stoppage time. They were ultimately named Asian Football Confederation team of the year. All of the action begins June 12th with host country Brazil, taking on Croatia in the tournament's opening match.
