Now we're not talking cheap. After all it's still Paris, but with the US Dollar surging in value and the Euro hitting a nine year low. This may be the least expensive time to take an expensive trip. Monday the Euro traded below $ 1. 19 which is the lowest point the Euro has seen since 2006. Meanwhile the US Dollar has surged more than 12 % against the Euro since this summer. Putting the US currency at it's. Highest point since 2005. In layman's terms. If you go to, to France and their current Euro's getting weaker and weaker and weaker you can buy more stuff with your dollar. This also applies to the places that were relatively less expensive than the US anyway. For example, consumer prices in Spain are about 18 percent lower than the US according to online database Numbeo. So, with the value of the dollar having increased as well the savings are twofold. The same goes for eastern Eurozone countries like Lithuania and Slovakia. The Unites Kingdom's currency, the pound, hasn't slid nearly as severely as the Euro, but. It has fallen about 10 % since early July. The one thing that doesn't seem to be getting any cheaper is airfare. The airlines insist they're using their record profits to improve the customer experience, upgrading airport terminals, installing WiFi systems. And buying new planes. There is such a large demand for flying that, despite the Euro dropping in value and airplanes paying much less for oil, airlines don't have to drop prices.
