[ MUSIC ] This is the cover of Time magazine. So maybe what I was expecting was to come in and do very smart suits in greys and muted colors, and to look slightly like politicians, not like the craziness [ LAUGH ] that we're doing. So it's a nice surprise, it's great. I wanted to have this kind of mash up of northern renaissance art and kind of modern art. I like the kind of bold flat colors of Francis Bacon but the detail of northern renaissance painters like Cranekin Durer. I'm kind of always interested in those northern renaissance painters just because there's a kind of obsession for clarity and detail But also there's a sort of very perverse use of stillness.

The subject is thinking deeply about their universe. I actually always wanted to be a filmmaker rather than a photographer and one of the most important aspects of filmmaking is that great sort of thing of the cinema closeup, when you kind of crash in. is that a woman's face and she's thinking about something that is changing her whole world, and that aspect of cinema I stole and put in my photographs.
