>> Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is not wasting any time. He spoke to foreign correspondents Friday. -[ Foreign Language ]

>> At a massive rally Saturday, he met with women at the Miraflores Presidential Palace. And on Sunday, he welcomed the elderly. The message only by defeating the opposition can Venezuela have peace. -[ Foreign Language ]

>> We need to defeat the fascists to have peace. We're reminded of that by the deaths of every Venezuelan killed by these violent vandals. I call for peace.

>> As many as 8 people have died in violent antigovernment protest so far this month. The opposition blames Maduro for a climate of lawlessness, food shortages, and blackouts. Maduro says the opposition is causing those problems in order to destabilize his government and is doing everything he can to restore order. -[ Foreign Language ]

>> I have decided, as you know, to organize a national peace conference for next Wednesday with all the social sectors, workers, and religious leaders of this country.

>> But that announcement hasn't stopped opposition protests, mainly young people and students. A sudden protest here in the streets of eastern Caracas. As you can see, a group of students has blocked the intersection, creating all kind of traffic problems. Back there on the street, the students wrote Maduro Assassino, meaning, President Maduro, you are a murderer. -[ Foreign Language ]

>> We want him to leave because he doesn't listen to us. We're tired of so much misery, so much insecurity and injustice in this country. -[ Foreign Language ]

>> A previously fragmented opposition has unified after last week's arrest of former presidential candidate Leopoldo Lopez, his incarceration under charges of conspiracy and arson, another example the opposition says of government oppression.
