I'm here with Harold Pollack. He's co- author of The Index Card Why Personal Finance Doesn't Have to be complicated. Now what's the best piece of personal finance advice that you've received? Well does it have to be advice that I followed? No. Well I was certainly told by many, many people that I should start Saving early. That's advice I did not take. At the tim, I think the Dow Jones was about fifteen- hundred .

>> Oh !

>> It's now, as we're taping, I believe seventeen- thousand. And I wish I had a time- machine so I could go back and follow that advice .

>> RIght .

>> So, but I think good advice that I got was really, you know, live below your means. Means save as much as you can just add it in a steady way. What's the worst financial advice you've ever gotten ?

>> I would say that every stock tip that I've ever gotten will be the worse advice that I've ever gotten .

>> Why is that? Because you should not buy stock in individual companies if you're an ordinary investor, that's just not a game that any of us should play. And I would say many times I've gotten advice of how to do some complicated thing that I really shouldn't do, and that type of thing is bad advice Yes. If it's a complicated financial maneuver you're saying- Complicated financial maneuver or I really can't afford to buy this house, but if I get this adjustable rate mortgage that starts out with a low payment I think I might be able to afford it. Something's that complicated that allows you to do something that you really shouldn't be doing.

Is bad advice. So, the more moving parts something has, the more you should be cautious about it. Absolutely. Thank you very much, I really appreciate it. [ MUSIC ]
