## Transcript

Welcome to the Page Cast. It's Thursday, October 4th and I'm Mark Halperin. The republican presidential nomination fight is a true jumble. But there's a reality. The campaigns of Rudolph Giuliani and Mitt Romney, both see the other one as their chief competition. They've not engaged too much in negative attacks but it started on Thursday, mostly over the issue of taxes. Governor Romney in New Hampshire criticizing Rudy Giuliani for his support for a commuter tax and his opposition during the Clinton years to a presidential line item detail. The Giuliani campaign hitting back hard. Former Massachusetts Governor Paul Cellucci who supports Giuliani, rather than his successor in Massachusetts, criticized Romney's record on taxes in a conference call with reporters.

And the Giuliani campaign put out a long document saying the mayor has a better record on taxes than Romney does. You can expect more clashes between these two. They also both put out their fundraising figures, neck and neck. Both raising about $ 10, 000, 000 in the third quarter, although. Mitt Romney chipped in a loan of about $ 8 million from his own money, giving him an advantage. But right now Giuliani has a cash on hand advantage, of $ 16 million to about $ 9 million, although he's got that checkbook in his pocket. I expect those two candidates to squirmish. For many days and certainly on Tuesday, the next Republican debate.

The first one featuring Fred Thompson in Michigan I'm Mark Halprin. Thanks for watching The Page Cast.
