## Transcript

We've all grown up thinking that certain conversations are professional and certain conversations are not professional. We bring our whole selves to work, so why can't we talk about our whole self? Go to Delta Airlines Flight 1434 went on from service to San Francisco. Okay. Good morning. My name is Rachel BURNETT. I come to you from the National Council of Behavioral Health. Mental Health First aid was actually devised just like CPR, first aid to be able to help people to know the signs and symptoms of mental illness. I've trained thousands of people across the country and I've never trained a class where I did not have participants come to me later and thank me.

Also, you're in a no judgment zone. Probably the only no judgment zone you'll be in today. There is no judgment here. So let. Me ask the question and. The concept of mental health. First aid is interesting because it's really creating a coalition of employees who care. Unfortunately, in our organization, we lost an employee. He ended up taking his own life. And not only did it affect the people that work directly around him and affected everyone in the organization. A lot of times, employees, they feel like, oh, if I if I reach out that it means a week. I'm not capable of handling things, which in matter fact is the reverse.

This training provided tools on things to say, the signs to look for. I learned what you can and cannot say, I said and should not say. I think that is very important and valuable. Things are changing. When I think about stigma and I think about the stigma of cancer and how we now rally around individuals and help them, I know that one day we will do the same for individuals who are living in silence with a mental illness because we're here to help them.
