## Transcript

Our infatuation with millionaires extends from the idea of the American dream and how anybody can make it in this country. Million dollars has been the catch- all for wealth in Hollywood. It's a through line through Hollywood up to recent times. The concept of millionaires in Hollywood goes back to the 1930s. 1932's If I Had a Million, How to Marry a Millionaire in the 50s, a lot of this movies. The protagonist are getting that money very easily, either trying to marrying to that wealth or being gifted by a wealthy benefactor. I think audiences like that kind of stuff, because it feels relatable in every man or woman type of way, something like Brewsters Millions where it's like you have to spend all this money.

You have 30 days in which to spend 30 million bucks. If you can do it, get 300 men. You look at a movie like Slumdog Millionaire, shows how much Americas infatuation with millionaires has really spread globally and anybody could be a millionaire, even young boy from the slums of India. One of the most culturally prevalent millionaire quotes is from Dr. Evil in Austin Powers who was looking for a ransom and suggested $ 1 million. We get the warhead and we hold the world ransom for [ MUSIC ] $ 1 million. And everyone laugh at him because it's not as much as it used to be. A million dollars isn't exactly a lot of money.

States. Even though a million dollars is maybe not as much as it used to be, people still look at that as the gold ring. In modern times, a lot of these game shows have focused on " millionaire ." Who Want To Be A Millionaire, How To Marry A Millionaire, Joe Millionaire. And, the audiences really like that, for two reasons. A, again, the conceit of how anybody could win a million dollars. [ MUSIC ] Maybe there is superiority if your watching a game show like Who wants to be a Millionaire. Maybe you know more than the person sitting there and you get to be like, I can be a millionaire, I should be on this show.
