[ MUSIC ] As your favorite graduates don those caps, it's time for the age old question. What sort of gift is both useful and appropriately marks the occasion? Here with more is Jill Slessinger. Welcome Jill. Great to be with you. So if you obviously know get graduate is going to turn down cash, but if you really want to give a gift What sort of thing would be great? I mean they are starting their professional lives, right, so maybe you can give something that will enhance that so maybe you replace that disgusting old knapsack that was filled with books and you say hey it's a cool messenger bag.

Or maybe it's something like helping to upgrade technology, right, you have the old iPhone 4 it's time to move to this century, right. Or maybe it's something simple as like let's just get a new case or some power outlets. I think a lot of these things are really helpful. Kids don't like to spend money on these things. It's sort of like an annoying thing, but your appreciative when you have it. Let's also note that there is some people who are walking into professions where they need a little upgrade on their wardrobe. Others who say, hey, I have a tie and a suit but I need a like casual clothes to walk into work and jeans is not going to cut it.

What are some more of those that maybe a student isn't going to buy for themselves, what would be really useful as they are starting out? Maybe I would have, say, a publication I would really want, I'm going into finance A subscription to the Wall Street Journal is pretty expensive or to the FT, that could be something that's helpful. I'm even going to go old school here, a book, okay? You're a budding entrepreneur you get them the E- myth or She's going to be a programmer, you go say, get the Steve Jobs biography. Even something like that, that they wouldn't think of, is gonna help them out. Great, and what about if a student doesn't have a job yet?

How about helping them out with a resume service? There are some free ones but there's also paid upgrades and apps that really can be useful for them. And I think that's important. Some parents are doing something that's kinda cool, which is actually working with a coach to help write a resume, which is a very nice gift. It's a little more expensive, but I think that can also be useful. Something that's going to give them good blocks to get to that next place and help them out. Most of all, look, it's really fun. It's an occasion. If you wanna be lazy, I'm sure they're gonna love the cash. The question is, that, can you do something a little bit more?

I think you can. Great, all right. Jill, thank you so much. Great to be here. [ MUSIC ]
