## Transcript

Hello? Hello. Can you hear me? Yeah. Yes, is this Mr. Risa? Yes. Hey yes. This is my name's Captain Todd Cogshaw. I'm the incident response manager here at Coast Guard District 7. Yes. And I, I just wanted to talk to you briefly about your voyage and express some of our concerns. Yes. We understand that you left on September 30th and yesterday Coast Guard Sector Miami responded to the concerns of a passing vessel and, and Cutter Weber arrived with you during your attempted human- powered travel from Miami, Florida to Bermuda in a HydroPod. Yeah. I have grave concerns regarding your safety. The responding Coast Guard unit warned you about t he dangers associated with your planned voyage, especially the limited means that you have to propel and maneuver yourself, and I understand that the propulsion and maneuvering of your vessel are accomplished only by you running and leaning from one side to the other?

Is that correct, sir? Yes. Okay. I'm really concerned about the likelihood of deteriorating weather conditions during the, course of your voyage here that may, that may pop up and your, and your ability to weather and navigate. Alright, given your hydropod's limited maneuvering, propulsion capabilities. And, we've had a Coast Guard vessel on scene with you, since yesterday, and, and, until this time now. And, the Gulf Stream's enabled you to travel 185 north, but you've made no further headway eastward. On your intended track. I, I think you're going to have, at your three knots speed of advance I think you're going to have a very hard time punching through the Gulf Stream and heading East to make Bermuda before the Gulf Stream pushes you North of Bermuda and you'll be unable to make it.

Furthermore the uncertainty with the weather calls into question the adequacy of the hydropod's construction and design. Based on this information do you wish to stop your voyage and embark the Coast Guard vessel? Huh? I've been, I've been two years practice for this. I understand you've been practicing two years for this. And so you are, you are declining to, stop your voyage at this time and, embark the Coast Guard cutter. I don't know what I can do. Well, there, there's really, you have, you have, Basically a choice, sir. You can either stop your voyage and get on the Coast Guard cutter and come back to shore.

Or you can choose to continue on your trip but the Coast Guard cutter will be, will be leaving and the only people on [ INAUDIBLE ] will be. For short sized team. If you run into trouble, there's no guarantee that we are going to be able to, get to you in time and or even find you. We were okay. I am [ UNKNOWN ]. You understand why your refusal to terminate this voyage you're putting yourself in great danger on the high seas and while the coast guard is committed to protecting life at sea we cannot guarantee your personal safety in the weeks ahead. And so you're continuing this voyage at your own risk.

Do you understand that sir? OK, I just wanted to make sure that we were clear on that, set the [ INAUDIBLE ] on your voyage to Bermuda, [ INAUDIBLE ] departing at this time.
