## Transcript

The fire storm, the ban, the forced sale, but will Donald Sterlings racists rant actuality lose him the Los Angeles Clippers? NBA commissioner Adams Silvers announcement of a $ 2. 5 million fine, a lifetime ban from the league. And plans to urge owners to force a sale of the team will certainly start Sterling down that path. The whole scandal started with a leaked conversation between Sterling and girlfriend V Stiviano. Where he chided her for posting pictures with black people to social media and going to Clippers games with them. Every single day of your life. But they're not in public? But why publi -, publicize it on, on the Instagram and why bring it to my games?

Why bring the black people to the games? Enter Tuesday's punishment from the NBA. Now there's little doubt Sterling's simply going along with the sale of his team and fading into the shadows would be easiest. The NBA Players' Union said shortly after Silver's announcement players had been prepared to boycott. During the League's most important time of year, the playoffs. Clippers' fans almost universally called for new ownership of their team. And the Clippers historically overshadowed by the Lakers have legit superstars on this team with hopes of a title. And then there's this. Only two weeks ago, one of the league's most downtrodded franchises, The Milwaukee Bucks was sold for more than half a billion dollars.

So the Clippers stand to fetch much more. But a professor of sports law at John Marshall Law School told the Los Angeles Times. The NBA's constitution only allows for expulsion for circumstances like gambling, fraud. Or not fulfilling an obligation to the league, ie not paying your players, which hasn't happened here. The author of a sports economics books, Richard Sheehan then told the times, if he truly doesn't want to sell. I'm going to guess he could tie this up for the rest of his life. It would be an absolute disaster. Sports writer Jason Whitlock argued Sterling is the sacrificial lamb in the larger race issue for sports.

And the NBA would be better served giving more of it's governing power to minority executives. Removing Donald Sterling from the NBA solves nothing. It sets a precedent that will likely boomerang and harm the black players and coaches. Who are shocked and outraged that an 80 year old man with a documented history of bigoted actions also has bigoted private thoughts. Thanks for watching, I'm Cliff Judy.
