[ NOISE ] News consuming citizens from around the world are very aware of the Hong Kong protests against the Chinese government occurring over the last few days. But China's own mainland citizens might not be hearing much about it because of government censorship. And to prove this point CNN ran a live stream of its program airing in China during its US newscast about the protest. Here's what happened .

>> In the past they've censored us and it's gone to black. They might do it again they might censor us again tonight. The story concerns and we've just gone to black in China so we are no longer being seen in China .

>> And the government is reportedly blocking everything from news reports to social media. The New York Times writes Starting Sunday night officials overseeing internet censorship blocked Instagram. Presumably to ensure that images of the rallies would not spread. Try taking a look at Chinese state- run news agency Xinhua, too. The home page featured no mention of Hong Kong protests Monday morning. Protestors in Hong Kong are upset over China's announcement in August. That any political candidates for Hong Kong elections would first be screened by a pro- China committee. China will not be trusted by the international community and as the world will know that even if you sign international agreement with China they can re- write it anytime.

That cannot be right. Protesters, including many students, have responded by trying to shut down the city's business district. A major financial hub for China. They've instituted demonstrations at local government buildings and public places. Sit- ins that have recently resulted in violent clashes with local police. The next Hong Kong government election takes place in 2017.
