Remembering Anne B Davis. The actress known for generations as Brady Bunch housekeeper Alice, died Sunday at her home in San Antonio. Davis's career spanned more than five decades, starting in the early 1950s with theater and television work. Her big break came in 1955 when she was cast in The Bob Cummings Show. As lovesick secretary Charmaine Schultzy Schultz. All set, Boss. Davis earned two Emmys for her work on that show. And was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. Then in 1969. [ MUSIC ]. Davis starred as the lovable, sometimes bumbling, Alice Nelson for five seasons of the iconic sitcom.

The role would become Davis' best known work and, for the most part, her last. The star largely retired from Hollywood after the Brady Bunch ended in 1974, turning to a life of faith and settling down in an [ UNKNOWN ] community. When Davis did choose to work, it was as Alice, reuniting with her Brady Bunch family for several short lived spin- off series. Alice. Alice. And TV movies, like a Very Brady Christmas. I care very much about this family. It was my family, as close to my family as Alice would ever get. And yeah, I would have died for any single one of them at any, at any point. Davis's affection for the show was obvious.

She even made a cameo appearance in 1997s big screen reboot, The Brady Bunch Movie. Though she lived a pretty private life and never married, Davis did make a handful of public appearances with her castmates over the years, like at the 2007 TV Land Awards. She even recorded a birthday message for pal, Florence Henderson. This past February. Are you still working? What are you doing working, haven't you ever heard of retirement? Davis' longtime friend Bishop Bill Frey said she suffered a fall Saturday, and never recovered. Florence Henderson memorialized Davis on Facebook, saying she'd lost a dear friend.

Ann B. Davis was 88.
