## Transcript

Charleston, South Carolina was hit with torrential rain and flooding over the weekend in what's being called a once in 200 years rainfall event. Flashflood warnings were issued early Sunday morning, but the situation grew more dangerous throughout the day as water flooded buildings and stranded cars and washed out bridges. Tropical moisture from Hurricane [ UNKNOWN ] has heavily contributed to the downpour. Though these floods are not a result of the hurricane itself. Charleston's tide level was 8. 2 feet Sunday, and residents north of Myrtle Beach reported receiving 16 inches of rain over three days.

As a result, President Obama Declared a state of emergency in South Carolina. There is no access to the peninsula as we speak, and we're not sure when that will clear up. The Charleston Peninsula, where the city's oldest neighborhoods reside, was closed most of Saturday. By 9: 20 PM Saturday, local authorities reported receiving over 300 distress calls in two hours. And it doesn't look like the rain will let up any time soon. Accuweather reports conditions could continue through Monday. Four people have died in the related traffic incidents since Friday according to CNN. Officials are using the phrase, turn around, don't drown to encourage people to stay off the roads.

After all just 12 inches of water can over power a standard sized. Car, along with South Carolina, North Carolina, New Jersey, and Virginia have all declared states of emergency.
