## Transcript

>> Robert Shiller of Yale University.

>> So, are you hearing anything interesting here in Davos?

>> Well, I'm feeling better this year than last. It seems to me that it's gotten a little bit out of the [ unk ] last year and there's a lot of talk about constructive action and it's international type. This is the inspirational thing that people of different countries in the world are coordinating their response to this financial crisis.

>> What sort of constructive action are you hearing about?

>> Well, we're talking about contingent capital that would help support banks in a crisis like this. We're talking about coordinating regulatory standards. We have all these different countries with different accounting systems and a different capital environment including [ unk ]. So, it's making our financial markets work better, I think, on a global scale.

>> Are you talking to any other sort of folks here or any entrepreneurs? Are you hearing any interesting buzz in the hallways?

>> Usually, I meet entrepreneurs here who have [ unk ], but I have so far-- and I wonder if that's a bad sign because-- but my worry is that the real problem generated by a financial crisis is it damages genuine entrepreneurship and people will become very [ unk ]. They're-- You don't want to invest in anything that isn't well documented and liquid. You wanna say liquid and that makes it hard for entrepreneurs, but I wouldn't know whether that's why I haven't met any here this year.

>> So, what's the one thing that you wanna lock away from Davos having learned or having found out about?

>> Well, I wanna clarify my country's role in the-- in the improvement of the financial system. To me, I'm benefiting a lot from talking to people in other countries about their regulatory reform. It's a very complicated amount of change that's going on right now and it's very hard to keep track of the intellectual basis for all these changes that are happening.

>> Is there any one country that has-- to get really interesting ideas?

>> United Kingdom probably. I just met Adair Turner at the FSA. But U. K. is-- I don't know if you're asking me to single out countries. There's no really way to say-- I think we learn from all countries. I was just yesterday talking about Chile in South-- I've met someone here from Chile, but I was talking about it, about a financial innovation from that country and I think what we have to do moving forward is to get ideas from every country of the world.

>> Okay.
