## Transcript

At 97 Simone is quite possibly the oldest of the Cannes festival goers, she is certainly the most faithful, since 1947, Simone has been to 66 of a total of 67 Cannes film festivals. [ FOREIGN ]. That hotel next to the casino is where the cinema was, there were no steps or maybe just two. [ FOREIGN ]. This is me in 1947, with a friend who owned the Pagode cinema in Paris, madam de Caris. At the time Simone worked in a Parisian cinema theatre. She'd fallen in love with film when she was eight, watching silent movies in her home village in central France, then Cannes became her passion. [ FOREIGN ].

The year I gave birth they didn't have a festival, everyone joked that they didn't bother having a festival because I couldn't be there. [ LAUGH ]. After 66 festival years some of Simone's memories have become blurred, but she remembers the atmosphere of the early days. [ FOREIGN ]. We certainly saw more starlets or even stars on the closet than now. [ FOREIGN ] And they didn't need bodyguards. This year Simone is rooting for Swiss veteran director Jean Luke Codea who has a film in the main competition, but she admits that her passion for Cannes is no longer the same. [ FOREIGN ]. The early festivals were very French, there weren't many foreigners.

[ FOREIGN ]. Most journalists were cinophiles, true cinophiles and were often also jury members, now everything is different. [ FOREIGN ]. Perhaps, but Simone still recommends cinema as the secret to a long life.
