## Transcript

This week, the NFL's been forced to confront a huge problem, its concussion rates. A federal judge granted preliminary approval to a deal that would compensate more than 4, 500 former NFL players who've suffered from dementia, Lou Gehrig's Disease, Alzheimer's, and other neurocognitive illnesses. After a settlement last year, the NFL was only obligated to pay out $ 765 million for concussion related claims, much of which would have been dispersed over a 17 year period. But now, the courts are questioning whether that money will be enough to pay all the claims. So that $ 765 million cap, they've scrapped that.

Now, there is no cap. This is huge. It means retirees, regardless if they're young, old, or hall of famers, will have access to funding for healthcare. But critics of the deal, say the NFL is getting off lightly since the league makes almost $ 10 billion in annual revenue.
