## Transcript

Google's YouTube is set to make an even bigger move to the video gaming space with its reported acquisition of video game streaming service Twitch. Venture Beat says it has confirmed the acquisition thanks to its sources familiar with the matter. The deal's reportedly for a whopping one billion dollars. But the specifics are still nuclear. But it is clear Google and YouTube stand to benefit from a Twitch acquisition. And here's why. Twitch says as of January this year the video game streamer had one million monthly active users and more than 50 million viewers tuning in each month. That's series of numbers even Google can't turn down.

And then there's the streaming services integration with Playstation 4 and XBox 1. Because console owners can easily and quickly share their gameplay on Twitch it increased the number of users broadcasting on the site. It turns out Twitch was already extremely popular before XBox 1 and Playstation 4 integration. Thanks to the computer gamers, in late 2013, Comscore ranked Twitch the number one video site in its gaming category. Compared to its nearest competitor, Twitch boast then ten times the amount of videos created. More than 5 times more videos watched per viewer, and 5 times more minutes watched per viewer.

Once more, video gaming is picking up steam as a spectator sport. Mashable writes, the easiest comparison to make is sports. How many millions of viewers tune into Monday night football, Nascar, or Formula One. Millions of active users, loads more active viewers, and a growing market. Smart move, Google. Thanks for watching. I'm Megan Judy.
