But when asked if they'll go for a swim later, the answer is pretty much the same. >> I don't think so. >> It was here, in Egypt's idyllic coastal resort town, that a recent series of shark attacks left one woman dead and four other tourists injured in the span of just six days. Now, for nearly two weeks, local authorities have told tourists to stay out of the water. >> To be honest with you, now, I would just-- I went [ unk ] all days now. >> But there are some people who say they're not afraid to get wet. >> For the divers, we don't care. Actually, I didn't see a single diver that cancelled this trip because of the shark. Because actually, we are looking for the sharks. >> This is Sherif Khairat. He's a dive instructor here. And today, he's leading a group of expert divers out into the deep blue, where no one else lately has been allowed to go. >> I'm hoping to see the awaited shark just to prove that it's not aggressive, that it doesn't cause any harm. >> Expert divers are people who have logged at least 50 dives. And despite the fact that they're far more likely to encounter a shark, authorities say they're the least at risk. >> There has been no record of shark attacks against divers in our area at all. >> In fact, all five of the shark attack victims this month were swimmers and snorkelers. >> Being under the water with them, for me, is safer than being on the surface with the shark. >> There are a couple of reasons for that. On the surface, a swimmer or a snorkeler might look like an injured animal, something that sharks like to eat. Underwater, divers say it's a far more level playing field. Divers can see the sharks, and the sharks can see them. >> We're more accustomed to seeing these animals underwater. I think that we have a better idea how to respond if we do see a risk behavior. >> But experts also say that tourists here have been feeding the fish. And that makes the sea more dangerous for everyone. >> People, usually the snorkelers, they are feeding the fish-- which is something we try so much to tell them, " Please, don't do this ." What will happen is, fish will get to the habit of staying at certain places where they get easy food. And then, the bigger fish will also come closer to them. So, they just simply-- when you start feeding the fish, you are playing with all the ecosystem. >> And that's the lesson that divers here are hoping their swimmer and snorkeler counterparts will come away with. >> Ah. Let me dive. >> What did you see? >> Lots of stuff. Fish-- tons of fish. No sharks.
