[ FOREIGN ] Political pundits took to the airwaves following the Obama administration's announcement that it will delay executive action on immigration reform. As a Latina activist who's been working for immigration reform for many, many years, I am disappointed because I would have hoped the president would have act two moths ago. President Obama has been considering moves to allow undocumented workers to remain in the country. As well as expanding a deferred deportation program for children of immigrants. The administration says it wants to take the issue out of the political arena. The delay means repercussions for the President, and other democrats, would come after November's congressional midterm elections.

He wants a long- term solution. If he wanted to have a long- term solution, he would have passed it at the beginning of the administration. For the President, it's an apparent about face. Earlier this year, he spoke of acting quickly. If Congress will not do their job, at least we can do ours. I expect the recommendations before the end of the summer. And I intend to adopt those recommendations without further delay. House Speak John Boehner took the opportunity to blast Obama, for even considering executive action. He issues a statement, saying, in part. There is never a right time for the president to declare amnesty by executive action.

The decision smacks of raw politics.
