[ MUSIC ] So in January, the talk about, Hit, Hitler called America the mongrel nation. Cuz we're all mixed up. The melting pot we were proud of he though was a joke. He thought you had to be Teutonic and German and all. And he said that would mean they would rule the world. Well, it turns out it didn't work out that way. Our heterogeneous population ended up working for us in the war. Cuz you all know that war movies are always a kid from Brooklyn. You know, there's some Jewish kid, there's some Italian kid, all that. It was part of the war. So January 1st, New Years Eve, of course Guy Lombardo started off the year.

And it's a year of icons like that. That year 39, he recorded [ INAUDIBLE ] . That was the year he did it. That was the year that Kate Smith recorded God Bless America. Now of course a lot of anti [ INAUDIBLE ] never liked God Bless America because it was written by Irvin Berlin. But it was the song of the immigrant people of America. The ones who were second generation or first generation. I, God Bless America, and of course it was the song they played at all the Flyers games in the 70s to win the Stanley Cup. She would come and sing it. So Kate Smith, I grew up with her somewhere, you know, When the Moon Comes Over the Mountain every afternoon on radio television with my grandmother, and it's something to do with being Irish, I think.
