## Transcript

>> It is that time of the year again--

>> A few weeks ago, TIME Magazine's Managing Editor Rick Stengel put out a call on YouTube for suggestions for this year's Person of the Year.

>> And I need your help.

>> In the comments and video responses, one choice dominated the submissions.

>> Dr. Ron Paul.

>> Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

>> But beyond the chorus of supporters

>> for the Texas Congressman, a few other ideas emerged. They ranged from the sublime and impassioned plea for Holocaust Diarist, Anne Frank.

>> Anne Frank symbolizes the Holocaust. We've made this mistake once and it should not happen again.

>> To the ridiculous, a farcical nomination of teen performer Miley Cyrus.

>> I want to nominate Miley Cyrus a. k. a. Hannah Montana as the Person of the Year. And if you do not nominate her for Person of the Year, I would not subscribe to your magazine because I would question

>> your authority as a thinker.

>> But many of the other suggestions were more likely candidates, names who have dominated this year's headlines.

>> My pick for TIME's Person of the Year would have to be Barack Obama. I think he completely symbolizes the American Dream.

>> My nomination for TIME Person of the Year is Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and the Financial Institutions on Wall Street that have set in motion the meltdown of the U. S. by the fought global economy.

>> TIME Magazine's next Person

>> of the Year will be Senator Barack Obama.

>> Who I wanna nominate is the United States media. They have a right and the left to dislike everybody else right now. Even Bill O'Reilly-- hey, I love you man-- can get us pinned to.

>> I believe that Tim Russert should be the TIME Magazine Person of the Year. I believe that he was a giant and that he did a lot to help out this country understand politics.

>> We think that your Person of the Year for the year 2008 should be Tina Fey.

>> And I can see Russia from my house.

>> You've got to be kidding me. Is this a question? Even a worth of asking, it is so obvious. Who is the one person that the whole world has been talking about? Obama, baby, Obama. So please TIME Magazine, don't think that we were born yesterday. We know-- Yes, we can baby. Yes, we can. Make some respect TIME Magazine.
