It gives you such a mixture, everybody who's at the top of their game in different industries all in one room. That's fun. [ MUSIC ] I'm most excited to see Literally everybody here. I just ran into J- Lo and I just met Nicole Kidman and so honestly, I'm having a good night. I think more than ever people are really listening to the younger generation. Us kids actually are very important too and we are going to be an amazing generation. My generation and every generation Before and after feels like it has to correct. I think that things have been done a certain way for a very long time. And that just because you're young doesn't mean that you can't make a difference. [ MUSIC ] I think what makes me optimistic this year are those kids from Parkland and the fact that they're on this list. Everything makes me optimistic about this year. I mean, in six months, we've seen a change in the national dialogue around sexual violence than we've never seen before. People want to make change. I've wanted this to happen much earlier. The world is changing and it's changing for our daughters. And we're super excited about that to see where all of this goes. [ MUSIC ] [ APPLAUSE ] The magic of this night and of this list is that it brings together people of extraordinary impact. You are taking on power structures and taking in refugees. You are pushing us all To no longer accept the unacceptable. [ MUSIC ] [ APPLAUSE ] Please welcome Me Too founder Tarana Burke. I raised a glass to six year old Tarana who was confused And didn't know about the things that had been happening to her. And spent years, and years, and years trying to figure it out until somebody else let me know that I was not alone. And so I raise my glass to survivors, I raise my glass to little black and brown girls like me. Hopefully they look at me in this moment. And they find hope, and they're inspired, and they know that they're not alone, and they'll never be alone as long as I have a microphone. One of the greatest gifts you can give to anyone is the gift of your presence. And that's exactly what Barbara Bull gave to me. Mrs. B was my high school advisor and middle school algebra teacher. She came to every football game. [ MUSIC ] She came to every basketball game, at least the ones that didn't conflict with her office hours. She came to every play. She filled me up with so much love. I felt like I could run through a brick wall and I wanted to do it for her. Everybody over here. Let's get loud.
