[ MUSIC ] The NBA tips off a new season on October 16 with all eyes on the East. Thanks to Lebron's move to the Lakers, the Eastern Conference is finally free from Lebron's lockdown and his departure is reviving many East teams' hopes for a finals run. The last non- LeBron team to reach the finals was the 2010 Boston Celtics. And with the king gone, pre- season speculation points to three teams that have a shot at winning the East. The Boston Celtics, the Philadelphia Sixers, and the Toronto Raptors. But each faces an uncertain road ahead. After years of savvy trades, draft picks, and free agent signings, the Celtics have cultivated one of the deepest teams in the league Meaning they may never need to put a weak lineup on the floor.

It's that kind of depth and coaching from Brad Stevens that has the Celts at the top of everyone's Eastern Conference power rankings. And the Celtics have high expectations for the 2018 season after winning 55 games and reaching game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals last year. But question marks still linger after the team lost two of their biggest stars to injuries last season. Gordon Hayward broke his leg in the first five minutes of 2017's season opener against the Cavs. He's documented his recovery in a docuseries with The Athletic. But we'll find out if he's the same Gordon Hayward that Boston signed two summers ago.

Meanwhile, Kyrie Irving, the team; s leader and biggest star was injured through all of Boston's playoff run last spring. Irving played his last NBA game on March 11 before getting sidelined with a knee pain that required two surgeries. After months of recovery he appears to be back in full form, sharing out instagram of five on five scrimmage with Kevin Durant and James Hardin back in September. Looming injuries aside the Celts are all but guaranteed a trip to the post season. The Sixers, on the other hand, have officially completed the process and are eager to take their place as an Eastern contender, led by superstars Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.

But rumors of lingering injuries continue to surround these all stars. Both Simmons and Embiid have the potential to become this year's MVP finalist. Or miss half the season. But if these two top three picks stay healthy, and if the talents of last year's first pick, Markelle Fultz, are realized, the Sixers have a starting lineup that no other team can match. Meanwhile Toronto is entering the new season with an all new look Last year the Raptors were the only team in the NBA to rank in the top five in both offensive and defensive efficiency. They still were no match for Lebron James in the playoffs.

This year they are replacing offensive specialist Demar Derozan with Kawhi Leonard who can easily be the best two way player in the conference when healthy. After an ugly breakup with the San Antonio Spurs, Leonard still has to prove if he's ready to lead a team again. But if all goes well, Toronto could be a power house and Leonard could be an MVP or Defensive Player of the year. No matter how great things go for the East, few give them a shot against the reigning champs, the Golden State Warriors. The Bay Area team is still favored to win the championship, especially after adding All- Star center DeMarcus Cousins to their roster.

And then there's LeBron. While the Lakers are still an unknown quantity, LeBron is still a force to be reckoned with. For now, every team in the East is happy to have him out of their hair and is welcoming the change.
