## Transcript

Warren Buffett just released Berkshire Hathaway's 50th annual shareholder letter and being the golden anniversary of said letter, they decided to throw in something a little different this year. That something was the stock's total historic return over the last 50 years. A staggering 1, 826, 163 %. Needless to say, that's incredible and if you happened to buy and hold Berkshire stock in 1965, congratulations you're rich. Outside of that incredibly gaudy number, the report also drops some more figures for share holders to digest. Those include earnings of $ 2412 per class a share in 2014's fourth quarter, bringing the value of each class they share to $ 146, 186 as of December 1st.

Berkshire Hathaway's market value also increased, up $ 18. 3 billiion from last year. So, not a bad year. On top of the numbers, the letter also gave some insight into the future of the company, though it didn't go so far as to name 84 year old Buffett's successor. In the letter, the company wrote, both the board and I believe we now have the right person to succeed me as C. E. O ., a successor ready to assume the job the day after I die or step down. [ MUSIC ] In certain important respects, this person will do a better job than I am doing. Whoever that person is, the company has said they prefer it to be an internal candidate, though they're obviously not naming any names.

Berkshire did have a little bad news to report in the letter, specifically referring to the company's railway operation, BNSF. It wrote. During the year, BNSF disappointed many of its customers. These shippers depend on us, and service failures can badly hurt their business. According to CNBC, Berkshire plans to spend $ 6 billion dollars improving the company which it calls its most important non- insurance subsidiary in the coming year. Finally, a wrap up of Warren Buffett's annual shareholder letter wouldn't be complete without at least one of his folksy pearls of financial wisdom. Our favorite this year, Cash...

is to a business as oxygen is to an individual: never thought about when it is present, the only thing in mind when it is absent.
