## Transcript

We ask who is being innovative, who is showing a new path forward in business? Who is really excelling in the arts? Who is making a difference? The great thing about the list is that it crosses all of these fields. It's not just politicians. It's not just financial titans. It's everyone. I think the idea of innovation is a constant. It's about creativity. It's about ambition. It's about a vision for the world and what you want it to be. We have a lot of technology superstars on the list this year. And, and that's an indication of where everybody lives these days. They live on their Smartphones.

They live online. They live in a digital space. I think about someone like Kevin Systrom from Instagram, or Perry Chen from Kickstarter. I mean, these things didn't exist a few years ago. If there's an overall trend I would say it's, it's about breaking down barriers that used to exist between say, a consumer and a company. With Kickstarter, you go straight to the source. You say, I'm interested in this product, I wanna fund it. I wanna make it happen and be part of that story. And it's a fascinating thing. And it's, it's only getting bigger. In the case of Jay Z, who makes the list this year, he's one of the most critically acclaimed hip hop artists of the contemporary era, but he's also become an incredible entrepreneur.

Just a few days ago it was announced that he's gonna be starting up a sports management agency. So it seems like there are no bounds to what Jay Z can accomplish. That's very inspiring for people, I think. To say I excel at this but that doesn't mean I can't excel in sixth other things that I might chose to do over my career. The idea of an icon is changeable its malleable. The one person I think really represents that word is Malala the young activist from Pakistan who was shot by the Taliban last fall and whose story became symbolic of, of courage and conviction. She just wanted to go to school to get an education.

I think Malala is part of a bigger movement about women's rights and women's opportunities and how far those can go. A couple of other people on the list this year, Sheryl Sandberg, who started a movement called lean in, is trying to make sure that women are not only ambitious at the beginnings of their careers but that they keep moving forward to get to those top. Positions, wherever it is they choose to work. [ INAUDIBLE ] who is a lifelong advocacy of freedom and icon of human rights. It's our conviction that the people we've singled out are for better or for worse moving things forward. Whether it's in medicine, or the economy, or technology, finance, the arts.

You don't have to love everyone on the list. But I think we would say with conviction that, that they are all influential. At City we are proud of all our clients who are changing the world and to sponsor this years Time 100 list.
