## Transcript

Would the defendant rise along with counsel. Madam Clerk, you may publish the verdicts. I'm Mitt Rawlings and I've been covering the Casey Anthony trial for News Feed. The verdict is in, but there are still a lot of questions. So I figured we would get you all caught up. As to the charge of first degree murder. Verdict as to count one, we the jury find the defendant not guilty, so say we all. The verdict came at 2: 30 in the afternoon, only 11 hours after the jury was deliberating. They deliberated for half the day on Monday, and half the day on Tuesday. This is incredibly fast especially for a murder trial of this scope.

The jury found Casey Anthony not guilty of murder in the first degree, which is pre- meditated murder. As to the charge of aggravated child abuse, verdict is to count two, we the jury find the defendent not guilty so say. They also found her not guilty of second degree murder and third degree murder, as a felony which would come as a result of child abuse. However, she was found guilty of four counts of lying to investigators in the course of the entire trial. [ SOUND ] Am not guilty. The reaction has been pretty mixed. And pretty strong on all accounts. A lot of people are disappointed. People are confused, saddened and of course there was some elation among Casey Anthony and her defense team.

Will the counsel and defendant approach the podium. Because this means that she will not be going to prison. More importantly that she won't face the death penalty which was their primary concern. There are no winners in this case. Jose Baez, Casey Anthony's lead defense lawyer. Said that he has very much mixed feelings about this case because he's very happy that his client is not going to prison and not going to face the death penalty. But he is still very saddened because Caylee is not with us any longer. She lived a very short life. And now we will likely never know who is responsible for her murder.

One of the more poingnent reactions that we've seen is from Lawsom Lamar, who's the state attorney for the ninth District in Florida. Essentially the lead prosecutor. He said that he and his team are incredibly dissappointed by the verdict, but that this is justice in America. And while we've been essentially burning the candle, keeping up late watching this one, and speculating about whether Casey Anthony would be found guilty. There are 140 pending murder investigations in Orange county Florida, 11 of whom are children. So, at this point, it's highly unlikely we'll ever know what really happened.

If Casey Anthony wanted to, she could walk up to the top of the court house steps, say tomorrow that she killed her daughter and she couldn't be prosecuted because of double jeopardy under the constitution. But that's unlikely to happen, she's maintained her innocence the entire time. Now she's been found not guilty by a jury of her peers. It's not likely that we'll ever find out what happened to two- year- old Caylee. [ BLANK_AUDIO ] [ SOUND ]
