## Transcript

[ MUSIC ] For students who are currently in college, there's three great ways that they can develop great financial skills. One is to learn to live beneath their means. That's about living on a budget, understanding your sources of income, whether that's scholarships, money from your parents, income you might get from a part- time job, and then matching that up with your spending habits. To make sure that you're not deficit spending. If you start in your late teens as an 18, 19 year old, or your early 20's learning how to operate and live within a budget, you'll be in so much of a better position when you're in your late 20's, 30's, 40's and beyond.

Students should also think about Contributing, financially, to their education in a way that prevents student loan debt. So that means filing a FAFSA every single year, regardless of whether or not you think that you might qualify for need- based financial aid. A FAFSA, of course, is the free application for federal student aid. In fact, a lot of scholarship opportunities require students to fill out the FAFSA for the student to be eligible for the Scholarship whether that's a need- based scholarship or a merit- based scholarship. And then finally since we're talking about scholarships that's another strategy.

Every student should be applying for scholarships, grants, and free money for college year, after year, after year. There's tons of scholarship opportunities out there for all kinds of students. There's merit- based aid for a whole host of things. Based on your ethnicity, geography, your major. So, I would encourage people to really take advantage of the opportunities that are afforded by actively seeking out those college opportunities as well. [ MUSIC ]
