[ MUSIC ] Everybody has an interest in what their police do. It's the most visible profession that there is. [ MUSIC ] In today's day and age of policing there's a lot of he said she said. I wanted to create a tool that police could use that could protect them from liability. [ BLANK_AUDIO ] I was a Seattle police officer for 15 years. I had a big ah- ha moment about putting a camera on a cop. But this was 1997 and the technology just wasn't there. I dreamed about starting this company for ten years, and then I finally came across some technology that showed me that hey I can make my camera. And the very next morning I launched VIEVU.

This is the fastest growing market in the police sector that I've ever seen. [ MUSIC ] Today, we are in over 4, 000 police agencies in 16 different countries. When we first started this program there was a lot of skepticism. Today, I think that the officers are fully bought into it. Over the last, roughly four years, we've seen about a 70 percent reduction in uses of force in all levels. Body worn cameras is a big part of that. I think that cops behave better, but I also think the people that are being filmed behave better. It has a civilizing effect on both ends of the camera. All we ask an officer to do is turn the camera on, turn the camera off.

At the end of the shift they dock the camera and walk away. Our software takes over. And it actually stores all the videos where they need to be stored securely. Communities need to know that officers can't alter, delete or edit videos. We are pushing the limits of our own Storage space on our servers. When we first started, we were talking about gigabytes. Now we're into terabytes. We probably took in about 12 terabytes worth of video in a month. We are now beginning to make the transition Transition to cloud storage. By pushing all the video to the cloud, it provides a way for police departments to be able to store their videos securely and just focus on what they do best, which is policing, rather than video management.

[ MUSIC ] I think we're just beginning to You see what body one cameras can do. I think you'll see cameras that can livestream, facial recognition technology, better night vision. Five years from now it'll be every bit as common as a badge and a gun Having that third party witness is going to become the norm. Anybody going to sit on a jury panel is going to ask the first question, " wait, where is the body cam footage? I want to see that, I want to see what happened ."
