## Transcript

Thousands gathered at a New York City funeral home Sunday to remember fallen NYPD officer Wenjian Liu. Liu was one of the two officers shot to death last month in the patrol car in Brooklyn. A Chinese ceremony led by Buddhist monks was followed by a traditional police ceremony. FBI director James Kony and New York City mayor Bill de Blasio. Spoke at the funeral. We do not know why there is so much evil and heartache in our world. What I believe with all my heart is that our obligation is to try to make something good come of tragedy. All of our city is heartbroken today. It's all of the city is feeling the pain right now.

All of the city. Wants to lift up the Liu family. Some officers in the crowd turned their backs when Deblasio spoke as they also did at the funeral for Liu's partner Raphael Ramos last week. The mayor has been heavily criticized for encouraging anti- police sentiment as he supported protests against police brutality. Before the funeral police commissioner Bill Bratton requested that officers not protest Deblasio at Liu's funeral saying the day was about grieving not grievance.
