## Transcript

>> The ratings are in for NBC's live, staged version of The Sound of Music, and they are impressive, much to the disappointment of the Glee- folk critics who dished on Twitter and elsewhere during the broadcast. NBC was number one in 56 metered markets, including Oklahoma City which isn't far from the hometown for show's star, country queen Carrie Underwood.

>> Do--

>> The highly anticipated remake starring Underwood as Governess Maria Von Trap left critics largely disappointed, amused, and even uncomfortable; though maybe that wasn't such a bad thing since most of those folks appeared to have made up their minds before the show even began. Others were more even- handed. TIME's Charlotte Alter noted the show wasn't half as good as the 1965 Julie Andrews original, but it was so cringe- worthy that it was, at least, fun to watch. The main complaint seems to be Underwood's acting skills which, unlike her voice, fell flat by most estimations. People magazine compared the show to a snow globe.

You could turn it upside down and shake it, really shake it, but no magic ever swirled around that plastic alpine scene. Still, the bold Sound of Music live event left some fans, including Underwood's fellow country star Miranda Lambert, satisfied. And as we said, ratings saying a different tune than reviews, which would bring us back to do, do, do, do. Sorry, we couldn't help ourselves. Underwood's Sound of Music reportedly cost $ 9 million to produce. Or think, well, as far as the giddy execs at the Peacock network are concerned, probably worth every penny. For TIME, I'm Cliff Judy.
