## Transcript

Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board are in a race against time. They left Washington bound for the scene of Thursday's fiery crash 100 miles north of Sacramento. Hence the urgency to get there as soon as we can because of all the perishable information that could be there, which by the way is everything that could be from the vehicles to people's memories of what happened in the accident. Pictures taken moments after the impact captured the horror on the highway. Investigators say they want to determine why the driver of a FedEx truck jumped the median colliding head on with a charter bus.

Immediately upon impact both vehicles burst into flames and fortunately the majority of the people on the bus were able to get off. The bus was packed with high school students. They were from Los Angeles and Fresno area schools on their way to visit Humbolt State University in Northern California. Jonathan Gutierrez, one of the students on board, tweeted a photo before the crash, only to post the fiery scene hours later. Both drivers, 5 students, and 3 chaperones are among the dead. 34 people were injured and taken to local hospitals. Many of them had cuts, contusions, bumps, Minor burns the ones I saw I know that there was one person when, when we arrived on scene that was unfortunately, he was on fire.

Investigators will piece together the crash and work to find out why the truck driver crossed the median, ending so many lives in an instant.
