Like the US team, we flew overnight from Natal, 3- 1 / 2 hours back to Sao Paulo. Very little sleep, so we're sort of running on fumes here. But, an exhilarating night for the US as they beat Ghana, their bogey man team, ending the curse, and get three points in their opening game. A lot of positives to talk about obviously but, you know, some injuries too, and we got some information on that today. Yeah, it was a really rough game Kyle Beckerman took a beating, Clint Dempsey had his face kicked in. And unfortunately for the US both Jozy Altidore and Matt Besler suffered a ham string injuries. Jurgen Klinsmann said that Matt Besler should be okay, that his removal at half time was a precautionary measure and he should be good to go. I thought that you know, despite the possession advantage that Ghana had and a lot of the crosses that they were knocking in, especially in the first half, Matt Besler and Jeff Cameron really weren't too troubled by them. I thought Jeff Cameron was a monster in back, and Besler's organizational skills will be really helpful. Jozy Altidore was another issue altogether, it looked pretty severe. Supposedly having an MRI. I don't know that US soccer and Jurgen really have much incentive to release them to us and the Portuguese before next weekend. So, looking at how the US might deal with the fact that Altidore has a decent chance of not playing against Portugal. Aron Johannsson came into that game as a replacement for him against Ghana. And, not a huge impact on the game. It makes you wonder a little bit what might Klinsmann do against Portugal? Is there any chance that he might change things up? Johansson, I don't know that I blame Johansson for that. I mean, the US couldn't string 3 passes together, and Johansson is a really good technical forward who thrives in combination with his teammates. And there were no combinations. Chris Wondalowski, more of a hybrid player. He is a guy you want to, in the box, getting on the end of some passes. He's really good at finding those little slivers of space in the penalty area. Maybe he's an option and maybe he's someone who would have come in if not for the injuries to Besler and Altidore. And then the other option might be going back to the 4, 2, 3, 1. Yeah. Playing Dempsey alone up top. Putting both Graham Zusey and Alejandro Bedoya on the flanks. And playing that sort of false nine perhaps that we see Spain doing. Letting Dempsey sort of come and go into the midfield as he pleases and try to work things that way. I kinda like that idea. Graham Zusey coming out as a sub the last couple of games. But I think he can be very effective as a starter, we've seen him do that before. You look also at just kind of the overall mood, I think, was very positive with the US team, they got 3 points, and yet they also noted that they did it without playing their best soccer. There can be a lot of improvement between now and the Portugal game, you look at Michael Bradley, actually had one of his. Not sharp. Not good games for the US, which is very rare especially recently ,. But, you look at the US, what are some of the other areas where you think improvement could be had? In holding and keeping the ball it's that simple. They, they lost the possession battle to Ghana by a considerable margin, they realize now, start with rhythm, start with simple passes, run for each other in midfield, Michael Bradley is simply gonna have to be more precise. They just count on him too much. They know that they need to get better. And on the positive side, and Klinsmann always likes to find it ,. Having your most important player not play his best game, fail to hold the ball and still get three points. There's a lots of, sort of look ahead and say, you know, we have three points in the bank and we can still get better as this tournament goes.
