## Transcript

Did Tesla's CEO Elon Musk really berate an employee who missed an event in order to witness the birth of his child? Yes, according to a new biography about Musk entitled Elon Musk, Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future. A Washington Post reporter highlighted Several quotes of Musks' are from the book. One of which he supposedly wrote in an email to the anonymous employee. " That is no excuse. I am extremely disappointed. You need to figure out where your priorities are. We're changing the world and changing history, and you either commit or you don't ." But Musk denies he every wrote that.

He Twitted Tuesday, he supports pregnancy leave and later Twitted It is total BS and hurtful to claim that I told a guy to miss his child's birth just to attend a company meeting. I would never do that. Whether the story is true or not, it does highlight the issue people face in the workforce when life gets in the way. It's talked about a lot in sports. New York Mets player Daniel Murphy was heavily criticized after he missed two games in the 2014 season because his wife had given birth. ESPN reported radio host Mike Francesa said, you're a major league baseball player. You can hire a nurse. And a wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings, Troy Williamson, ended up getting docked pay by the team after he missed a game in 2007 to attend his grandmother's funeral.

Now, those are just a couple of instances and certainly not always the case. Those examples are pretty extreme, and it's by no means the standard in professional sports. Plenty of athletes have been given the appropriate amount of time to celebrate the births of children, or properly grieve a loved one.
