## Transcript

If you're a fan of the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and managed to avoid the internet or social media entirely Tuesday, you might wanna grab a tissue. Doug Herzog, Michelle Gainless of Comedy Central gave me an incredible opportunity 17 years ago to pilot. This wonderful franchise. In my heart I know it is time for someone else to have that opportunity. And! Yes, John Stewart will step down as host of The Daily Show sometime before the end of the year. His contract reportedly expires in September. Of course news of Stewart's pending departure broke hours before the episode aired. And Comedy Central's president confirmed it soon after.

She said in a statement, in a better part of the last two. Decades. We have had the incredible honor and privilege of working with Jon Stewart. Through his unique voice and vision, the Daily Show has become a cultural touchstone for millions of fans, and an unparalleled platform for political comedy that will endure for years to come. Now it's unclear what Stewart's next move will be or who will replace him as the Daily Show host. But a writer for Time believes a woman at the Daily Show's helm could do the show some good. This is a no- brainer: It should be a woman... If there is any network that should 'take a risk' on a female host, it should be Comedy Central.

Other rumored contenders for the hosting gig include John Oliver, Craig Ferguson, and John Hodge. Stewart's news comes just months after former Comedy Central Host Stephen Colbert announced his departure from the Colbert report to host The Late Show. It's unclear exactly when he'll take over for current host, David Letterman.
