Those who survived, get about the business of getting on with life and mourning the dead. >> In this house over there, seven people died. In all over the world, all, it's a real tragedy for us. >> Gerardo Ocluck, was the lone survivor in this household. He sits with neighbors who weave flowers and ribbons in the funeral wreaths, a grim but necessary business in Port- au- Prince. Gerardo believes that quakes struck because his fellow Haitians didn't serve God, and didn't live in harmony as brothers. >> I think Haitians must be, help themselves, by themselves. And Haitians must live in brotherhood and to answer God. That's all I got to say. >> If not brotherhood, there's at least solidarity and hunger for people on this life. Near the ruins of the presidential palace, hundreds wait for food rations from the Brazilian UN Peacekeepers. They are frustrated at the slow response to them, but most are grateful to have something, anything. Others say they expected more. -[ Foreign Language ] -[ Foreign Language ] They didn't give us what they said. They only gave us one bottle of water and something else. >> This man says one thing they don't need is more guns on the street. -[ Foreign Language ] We don't need security yet, they don't have any reason to bring guns into the country. We need rice, peas, oil. We don't need guns in the country. The only thing we need is help. -[ Foreign Language ] >> People must think we are nothing. >> Daniel John may resent the militarization, but there are real dangers on the streets. First, on violence when looters fight over goods and convicts who escape when the prison was destroyed. Many will rebuild here but others fear the task is too overwhelming and will take too long. They take what they salvage from their ruined homes and leave to build a better life outside the city. Some like Samuel Joseph, take what's being affectionately called the Obama bus. These new transports were funded with money from China and the U. S. to assist in the relocation to safer areas outside the city where families can begin to rebuild their lives. >> The only thing that I can say to the people, to the Haitian people, just only got courage. The future only God knows-- only God knows, we don't know-- we don't know what's the future of this country, as you can see that, you can observe that what the future. >> Jonas De Shayzhu, an electrical engineer, who lost his home and now lives in the park across from the palace, believes that the aid is truly there to help, and he has faith that things will get better. -[ Foreign Language ] I'd like to say to America who are in charge that we believe they're gonna help us.
