This comes after the death toll from the building collapse two weeks ago. Has now, officially crossed 900 and is expected to continue to rise. The government of Bangladesh announced on Wednesday that it was closing eighteen textile factories for special inspections. Six of those factories have already been reopened. This weeks Time International features a photo essay by Teslema Aurther. A Bangladeshi photographer who's been flowing the lives and tragedies of Bangladeshi textile workers. And along with the photo essay is a commentary by David Von Drehle. Von Drehle says the international out cry over Bangladesh's recent textile tragedies. Will not actually change such situation, nor will a proposed boycott of American t- shirts that are made in these factories. In the end, he says, what will make change come is if Bangladeshi workers and local organizations mount a concerted effort to put pressure on local politicians. Mm- hm.
